General: Short-lived perennial herb from a taproot and branching stem-base; forming loose mats to 40 cm across; stems erect, several, branched, glabrous, 5-15 cm tall.
Leaves: Basal leaves linear to lance-linear, 3-10 mm long, less than 1 mm wide, 1-nerved; stem leaves opposite, 2-3 pairs, 3-12 mm long, often with short, sterile axillary branches; stipules lacking.
Flowers: Inflorescence of solitary flowers; flowers stalks glabrous; petals 5, oblong to egg-shaped, white, 2-4 mm long, or rarely lacking; sepals 5, purple, 2-4 mm long, weakly 3-nerved, long-pointed or abruptly sharp-pointed.
Fruits: Capsules 2-4 mm long, 3-valved; seeds 0.6-1 mm long, reddish-brown, slightly roughened.
